Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on the 20th of October, 1964. She is an American politician. She is also the first female vice-president as well as the highest-ranking female official of the United States. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her sharp questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
