Barbara Ann Corcoran

Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United States. The Corcoran Group is a New York-based real estate brokerage. In 2001, the company was transferred to NRT at $66 million. Corcoran quit the firm shortly after. Corcoran, one of ABC's first Shark investors, has been a part of every episode of Shark Tank. Corcoran has been involved in 53 deals since February of 2020. The biggest was a $350,000 investment to cover 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children in an Irish-Catholic working class family.  Her mother, Florence, was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was constantly moving between jobs and the next during Corcoran's youth. Her family frequently relied on free food deliveries from a local grocer. Corcoran remembers her father, who was a drunk at times too much, and behaved towards her mother disrespectfully and condescendingly, particularly after he'd consumed some drinks. Corcoran had difficulty in school, and later found out that she had dyslexia. Corcoran went to an Catholic elementary school in her neighborhood and started the high school year at St. Cecilia High School, Englewood. Corcoran was proficient in several courses her first year. She was transferred to Leonia High School and graduated with a D.
